Noteworthy Mention of the West Highlands Neighborhood in Denver
Denver’s West Highland Neighborhood is one of Denver’s most desirable neighborhoods and is considered by many, including Travel + Leisure Magazine and National Geographic Traveler, to be a great place to call home.
History of the West Highlands Neighborhood
This neighborhood was established in the late 1800s, promoting a quiet, clean and safe environment situated in a natural area several hundred feet above the city of Denver. The West Highland Neighborhood architecture features a combination of historic and modern homes, with the original houses constructed between 1893 and 1939. Many of the older bungalows have been remodeled to keep up with today’s standards while keeping the charm and character that many people have come to love in West HIghlands. The community has experienced unprecedented growth and change over the past decade with many new condo and townhome developments as well as apartment complexes.
Highlands Square, at 32nd and Lowell Boulevard, is the epicenter of the West Highland Neighborhood. It is lined with a variety of local Denver businesses, including restaurants, coffee shops, and boutique retail shopping, as well as a number of service providers. Here, you’ll find local shops offering everything from books and gifts to fashion and exercise apparel. The Highlands Farmers Market is a popular stop on Sundays during the summer and there are many neighborhood special events throughout the year.
Restaurants and Culture
West Highland has an array of restaurants to cure your food cravings. People looking for a bite to eat can experience everything from Mexican and Caribbean cuisine to seafood and sushi. There are also a couple of pubs, as well as wine and martini bars that gives West Highland neighbors and visitors an opportunity to socialize.
Highlights include:
- Tacos Tequila Whiskey | “A laid back atmosphere to match the Highlands. Bring your friends and family, and lounge on the patio or around the open kitchen to watch the chefs cook Denver’s most award-winning tacos.”
- Blue Pan Pizza | “Offering delicious Detroit, deep dish style pizza with loads of cheese and gourmet toppings, be prepared for the cheese that goes all the way to the crust! Blue Pan arrived in Denver during the summer of 2015 and expanded to include the Congress Park location. Choose among Detroit deep-dish, classic Italian, Chicago cracker thin, New York slices and even gluten free variety crusts. Be sure to try the Brooklyn Bridge or Sweetie Pie. There are many other menu offerings including salads, wraps and meatballs.”
