Noteworthy Mention of the University Hills Neighborhood

Denver’s University Hills Neighborhood is a serene and peaceful enclave, offering residents a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Denver. Nestled amidst tree-lined streets and charming homes, this neighborhood boasts a welcoming atmosphere perfect for those seeking a quiet oasis in the midst of the city. With its close-knit community vibe and easy access to local parks and amenities, University Hills provides a unique blend of urban convenience and suburban charm.

Architecture and Homes in University Hills

Although the original University Hills homes may not be considered spacious by today’s standards, young couples and families find that they meet their needs just fine. There are still a number of 1950s ranch-style homes and bungalows on large lots, framed by towering trees, mature landscaping and wide streets. But there are also many older homes that have been scraped and replaced with large, modern residences. Many folks have remodeled and upgraded houses in this neighborhood; yet the original charm of these pleasant older homes has been carefully maintained. University Hills is a popular neighborhood for both families and singles, and many older people have lived in the area their entire adult lives.

Recreation and Culture

There are some great schools in University Hills including Denver Academy, Bradley International School, and nearby Most Precious Blood Catholic School. The area is also close to the University of Denver, and located close to three RTD light rail stations — Southmoor, Yale and Colorado Stations.

Although not an urban-core community, convenience is secured with local grocers including King Soopers and Sprouts (off Colorado Blvd.), excellent restaurants, theaters, retail shops and more. Along South Colorado Boulevard you’ll find many strip malls including University Hills, University Hills Plaza and Wellshire Plaza, which feature a variety of retailers and service providers.

The Highline Canal meanders through the neighborhood, creating the perfect path for walking, jogging and cycling. Residents enjoy Eisenhower Park which includes a recreation center, grills, a playground, an outdoor pool, football and soccer fields, horseshoe pits, a tennis court, baseball and softball fields, and beautiful flower gardens. Across the street from Eisenhower Park you’ll find the popular Wellshire Golf Course, one of the most visited links in the City of Denver offerings.

As you make your way into University Hills, make sure to stop into the Garlic Knot. You’ll love the pizza and, of course, their famous garlic knots.
