Regis neighborhood used to be part of the Berkeley neighborhood before I-70 was constructed in the 1960s, splitting the community into two sections. It is located within the area of 52nd, Harlan, I-70, and Federal.

History of the regis neighborhood

The roots of Regis neighborhood date back to 1887 when Regis University, formerly College of the Sacred Heart, moved to its present site at 50th and Federal. It is the only Jesuit Catholic university in the Rocky Mountains and one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the U.S. It maintains a student population of 15,000 and was renamed Regis College, honoring St. John Francis Regis, the patron saint of lace-workers. St. Regis was known for his service to at-risk women and youth, providing them stable incomes and independence. Originally a boy’s preparatory school, Regis continued to grow and became Colorado’s pioneer in adult education in the 1940s and later in online education in the 1990s. Ultimately, Regis became Regis University.

Like many of Denver’s northwest communities, Regis neighborhood is undergoing a dramatic transformation as urban renewal affects the area. Crumbling and decaying structures are being demolished to make way for condominiums and townhomes, and older homes are being updated to meet current trends. Regis neighborhood will continue to see positive change now that the RTD’s Gold Line (G line) rail service is operating. Stops at nearby 60th and Sheridan, and Clear Creek and Federal enable residents easy access to downtown Denver.

Recreation and Culture

In addition to Regis University, Regis neighborhood has one of the best City of Denver golf courses in Willis Case. The challenging 18-hole course is situated against an incredibly picturesque backdrop of the Front Range and has mature trees, narrow sloping fairways, and tough greens.

Inspiration Point Park, developed in 1909, will take your breath away. This 25-acre slice of heaven has been described as “untamed” and “au natural.” People often visit this open space to take a break. It’s an amazing place for introspection and appreciating the great outdoors Colorado.
