Aurora has been Denver’s neighbor to the east since the 1880s when it was known as Fletcher. Renamed in 1907 after a community vote, Aurora spreads over three counties — Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas — and is home to over 350,000 residents.

Aurora constitutes a huge part of the Denver metro area, accounting for more than 154 square miles and featuring hundreds of subdivisions. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Aurora was the fastest growing city in the United States as many people opted to leave Denver for a suburban setting. Its borders are approximately Denver International Airport on the north, Front Range Airport to the east, County Line Road on the south and Havana on the west.

Because of its sheer size, you will find every possible housing option including many new build communities in Aurora. Apartments, townhomes, single-family homes, patio homes, you name it, Aurora has it. With the RTD’s R Line, light rail service now threads through the heart of Aurora. The 10.5 miles of light rail connects the track at Nine Mile Station up I-225 to the Peoria Station and a connection to the A-Line, which heads to both the airport and Union Station in downtown Denver. Additionally, the R Line connects to the H Line, making it more convenient than ever to get to the Denver Tech Center, Lone Tree or downtown Denver.

Aurora is home to a large military presence at Buckley Air Force Base and an equally impressive number of health-related services including Anschutz Medical Center, and Children’s and University of Colorado Hospitals. With five school districts operating in Aurora (Cherry Creek, Aurora, Douglas, Bennett, and Brighton), many people are also employed in the education field.

Residents in Aurora enjoy many recreational outlets including six major public golf courses, 100 parks, miles of biking and walking trails, two reservoirs (Quincy and Aurora) and over 5,000 acres of open space.
