Valverde neighborhood is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Denver and is considered to be an up-and-coming area, much like what we’ve seen in many of the inner-city neighborhoods. Its boundaries are 6th Ave., Federal, Alameda and the South Platte River.

Architecture and Homes in Valverde Neighborhood

People have lived in Valverde neighborhood since the late 1800s. The majority of homes were built in the 1920s and then again in the years following World War II. As a result, most homes in Valverde neighborhood are bungalows and small two-story frame structures. There is also a huge offering of apartment complexes.

The majority of the housing options are on the west and south sides of Valverde as industrial parks dominate the north and east sections of the neighborhood. This has been the case since the 1960s when I-25 and 6th Ave. were expanded and now provide excellent access for commerce. As a result, residents of Valverde neighborhood have a variety of employment options nearby and there is also excellent bus service throughout the community.

Parks and Restaurants in Valverde

Valverde neighborhood features three city parks: Barnum East, West-Bar-Val Wood, and Valverde. The largest parks are Barnum East, an extension of Barnum Park as it spills to the east of Federal Boulevard and 6th Ave., and West-Bar-Val Wood Park, located at the south end of the neighborhood. A walking path at West-Bar-Val Wood enables residents to access the football and softball fields, a basketball court and playground. There is also ingress to the South Platte River Trail in the southeast section of Valverde neighborhood at Valverde Park where you can cycle or walk downtown or take a southerly route through Denver, Englewood, and Littleton.

With over 25 years of experience in crafting beer, owners Wayne Burns and Laura Worley offer up a fascinating variety of beverages, ranging from blonds to porters to barleywine. Another brewery, Sleeping Giant, is a contract brewer for dozens of craft beer companies in Colorado and the western United States. The Asian Cajun is another great restaurant in the neighborhood.
