Noteworthy Mention of the Globeville Neighborhood

Denver’s Globeville neighborhood is filled with a rich history dating back to the 1880s. It is located north of Denver’s city limits and bisected by the intersection of I-70 and I-25, making an escape to other parts of Denver or the Rocky Mountains a simple endeavor.

Globeville hosts a variety of housing options, with single-family, apartments, and townhomes being the most predominant styles. Homes reflect the cultural charm of the neighborhood’s early and eclectic immigrant history.

History of Globeville

This neighborhood is one of the oldest in Denver. Settled in the late 1880s, Globeville was populated by blue-collar workers from Eastern Europe who worked in the Globeville Smelting and Refining Company, and at the nearby railroad and packing plants. Its reputation as a hub for immigrants continued well into the 20th and 21st century; now the majority of its residents are Hispanic and Latino. The neighborhood gets its name from the aforementioned company.

Due to both natural and man-made geographic obstacles, Globeville has always been isolated from Denver, even though it was annexed as part of the city in 1902. Located on the west side of the South Platte River and railroad tracks, accessibility into the neighborhood from Denver was limited. It was exacerbated in the 1950s when the Valley Highway (I-25) and the construction of I-70 divided Globeville into four separate sectors and in the process, removed a large number of original houses.

Globeville's Commuter Accessibility

The area is highly attractive for its reasonable property investment price tag, cost of living, and close proximity to downtown Denver. Globeville has been adopted by the City and County of Denver to undergo neighborhood revitalization, including two transit stations, new infrastructure, and expansion of the nearby National Western Complex. These efforts mixed with smaller investments are projected to create and preserve a unique, strong, connected, and healthy community.

There are many great stops in and next door to Globeville. The Globe Hall is a barbeque and live music hot spot for locals. The Colorado Front Range Trail runs along the South Platte River and is a magnet for biking and running enthusiasts. Parents and children alike love Argo Park. This area offers wonderful open space, shade trees, a playground and an outdoor pool that’s packed in the summer.
