Bastien’s Restaurant, 3503 E. Colfax Ave.

This award-winning neighborhood gem is family-owned since 1937 and is a great alternative to expensive steakhouses around Denver. Though Bastien’s vintage neon sign is a blast from the past, the interior ambiance is romantic, with two levels for for dining and enjoying a cocktail. With a passionate and informed wait staff, you’ll find just what your taste buds are craving along with the perfect pairings. Roasted brussel sprouts, bacon wrapped scallops and escargot are among the mouthwatering appetizer choices. Try their famous Sugar Steak, created with a rub made with four kinds of sugars, which creates a perfect caramelization.  If you aren’t in the mood for steak, there is no shortage of delicious entrees, from crispy roasted duck to salmon or burgers.

Q House, 3421 E. Colfax Ave.

To get your fill of modern Asian cuisine, head to Q House. Open for less than a year, this trendy and laid back joint puts a twist on traditional Asian cuisine, while still offering authentic, hard to find dishes like Pig’s Ear Salad. Try their fried rice with smoked trout, bacon and scrambled eggs. The pork belly steamed buns are melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and you can watch the chefs create your meal from the kitchen. Enjoy one of their handcrafted cocktails like the lychee martini or 5 spice old fashioned. Happy hour is daily from 4-6 p.m.

Trattoria Stella, 3201 E. Colfax Ave.

For a tasty brunch on the outdoor patio or a romantic Italian date night, Trattoria Stella is a lovely option. In the neighborhood since 1999, their kitchen is a scratch kitchen, and fresh made desserts by the owner’s wife are hard to resist. A customer favorite is the 32nd Street Pasta with black tiger shrimp, toasted pecans and sun dried cranberries with spinach spaghetti and goat cheese, tossed in spicy lemon olive oil. Don’t feel like dining in? Trattoria Stella is happy to provide take out, any day of the week. Order from their happy hour menu from 5-7 p.m.

Denver Biscuit Company, 3237 E. Colfax Ave.

Originally founded as a food truck in 2009, the Denver Biscuit Company is a neighborhood favorite and always busy. Located in the back of Atomic Cowboy, it’s all about the biscuits and there are a myriad of menu options to experience its flaky goodness. From sandwiches with buttermilk fried chicken, ham, and cheddar cheese, to classic Southern dishes like shrimp and grits in a biscuit bowl, the biscuit is celebrated at the DBC and shames the wannabes. Portions are huge, so share with friends or expect to have leftovers. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, so plan to come early and secure your spot, as seating is on a first-come first-served basis.
